Compare Christmas-lighting quotes by design, products, access, maintenance and takedown, not just the headline price. A practical checklist for GTA homeowners.
Compare the whole season, not just installation day
Two Christmas-lighting quotes can look similar and cover very different work. One may include the lights, maintenance and takedown; another may cover installation only. Before comparing prices, put the scope side by side.
For a home in Toronto or the GTA, start by sending clear photos of the front elevation, roofline and any trees you want lit. Add your preferred look and target installation period. That gives the installer useful information without requiring you to climb or measure at height.
1–4: Confirm the design and products
- Coverage: Which roof edges, peaks, entryways, trees and shrubs are included? A marked-up photo can make the scope easier to compare.
- Colour and style: Confirm warm white, cool white or colour, and the bulb or string-light style proposed.
- Supply: Does the quote include the lights and mounting accessories? Who owns them at the end of the season?
- Compatibility: If you already own lights, ask whether the installer can use them before buying more. Appearance alone does not confirm compatibility.
A marked-up property photo and a written list of inclusions make lighting quotes much easier to compare.
5–7: Confirm access and scheduling
- Property access: Identify gates, delicate landscaping, steep areas and roof sections that are difficult to reach.
- Power: Show the installer the available exterior outlets. Ask whether the proposed scope requires any additional electrical work.
- Dates: Agree on an installation window and what happens if weather prevents safe access. Requesting an early quote gives you time to refine the design.
A good proposal makes these assumptions visible. If something is unclear, ask before comparing the price with another offer.
8–10: Confirm service after installation
- Maintenance: Who do you contact if a section stops working, and which visits are included?
- Takedown: Is removal included, and what is the expected window after the holidays?
- Storage and next season: Who stores the equipment, and what will need to be quoted again next year?
Keep your comparison simple
Write the same ten headings under each quote and mark anything missing. The lowest total is only useful when the design, products and service are comparable. Keep the final written scope with your booking confirmation.
