Interlock & Landscaping

Interlocking stone patios, walkways, steps, and retaining walls across the GTA, built on properly compacted bases that survive freeze-thaw winters without heaving or sinking.

Interlock & Landscaping

Every project starts with a design consultation and a written scope: excavation depth, base material, compaction passes, stone selection, and edge restraints, all specified before you sign. We build on a full gravel base compacted in lifts, screeded bedding, and polymeric sand joints, because interlock fails at the base, never at the stone. Repairs, lifting-and-relaying of sunken areas, and re-sanding of existing interlock are also available.
The GTA's freeze-thaw cycle is brutal on hardscaping. Water gets under stone, freezes, expands, and by spring the walkway waves and the patio edge sinks. Ninety percent of failed interlock we are called to fix failed because the original base was too shallow or under-compacted. Building it right the first time is the entire difference between a 3-year patio and a 25-year one.

Expert Tips & Professional Advice
  1. We build across the GTA, with most projects in Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, and North York.
  2. The region's clay soil holds water, so base depth and drainage planning matter more here than in sandy regions.
  3. After installation, an annual power wash and joint re-sanding every few years keeps the surface locked and looking new.
  4. Every interlock project is custom, so pricing depends on your design, the square footage, and the site conditions. The build season runs May through October, and consultations book year-round.
“One of the most common mistakes I see is people cutting their grass too short, especially in spring and summer. Leaving it just a little longer encourages deeper roots and protects it from heat stress. If you’re not adjusting your blade height with the seasons, you’re missing a key part of lawn care.”

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why did my existing interlock sink or heave?

Almost always an under-built base: too shallow, poorly compacted, or missing drainage. We can lift, re-base, and relay the existing stone in most cases.

What is polymeric sand and does it matter?

It is jointing sand that hardens with water to lock stones together and block weeds and ants. It should be refreshed every few years, and we offer re-sanding as a standalone service.

How long does interlock last in the GTA?

20 to 30 years when built on a proper compacted base with maintained joints. Base preparation, not stone quality, determines the lifespan.

Do you handle both design and installation?

Yes. We work through the design with you, then excavate, prepare the base, lay the stones, and finish with polymeric sand and edge restraints. Handling both keeps the look and the build under one team, on a base that will hold.

When should I book an interlock project?

Consultations run year-round and builds run May to October. Booking a spring consultation gets your project into the early-season build slots.
